The artists in residence allow individuals to explore his/her practice within another community; meeting new people, using new materials, experiencing life in a new location. Art residencies emphasize the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural exchange and immersion into another culture.
In the wintertime the O Tamanco is nothing like a campsite at all. It becomes a beautiful quiet, lush big garden, where artists can open up their creative minds. Wander over the site with the chickens, pass the orange trees full of oranges, be amazed at the mimosa in January and get inspired.
The perfect place for creative people where they can be away from their usual environment. The coast is nearby for thoughtful walks on the beach and behind the campsite is a forest to wander and get ideas.
There is lots of space to work outside and inside. A barn with all kinds of materials to work inside. Writers, photographers, painters etc. can use their accommodation, the nice environment of A Cantina with terrace, or find a spot on the site to work.
We can host up to 20 artists, so you can meet each other and share your creative thoughts. Owner Irene herself is an silver/goldsmith who studied in Schoonhoven, The Netherlands.
There are numerous possibilities and if you let us know what you need, we will do everything in our way to provide that. We can take you to nearby expositions f.e. We can try to host workshops with local artists.
O Tamanco is closed as a campsite in the months of November, December, January and February, but open for artists in residence. You can also come in March, April and October when there are few camping guests.
